This government funded program called CDCP aims to fill this gap, making essential dental services financially attainable and widely accessible to low-income families. What is Covered by CDCP?
The Canadian Dental Care Program covers dental services that are deemed to be essential for maintaining optimal oral health. This does not include cosmetic types of dental treatment that patients would otherwise be healthy without. Dental services covered by CDCP include:
- Diagnostic and Preventive services: cleanings, dental exams, x-rays, fluoride applications
- Basic Services: Restorative (fillings/cavities), Endodontic (root canal, infections), Periodontal (abscesses, cleaning under gum-line)
- Major Services: Restorative (crown repairs, crowns), Removable Prosthodontics (dentures), Oral surgery (teeth/root removal, cysts, broken jaw bones)
- Orthodontic services: In 2025, orthodontic services will be covered only in cases of medical need.

Canadian Dental Care Plan News
CDCP is continuing to expand and broaden as the program matures. More provinces are adopting this program across Canada, and the services covered are also expanding. Since the release of this incredible program, close to 650,000 Canadians have received dental care!
As the program matures, more Canadian’s will be eligible to receive essential dental care. As of November 2024, adults aged 65 or older, and children under the age of 18 whose family income meets the requirement are eligible for the CDCP program. In 2025, all remaining ages and eligible residents will be allowed to proceed with this program.

There are some basic steps to follow in order to apply for the CDCP program, and all can be done online through Canada.ca/CDCP. Simply ensure that you meet the requirements and provide all the documentation required through the CDCP website. After you apply online and receive approval, you can begin scheduling your appointments with a dental provider who accepts CDCP.
